Transfats

Eat for the health of it.

The hydrogenation of vegetable oils began in the US in 1910. That is when crisco replaced lard. In the 1950's, the fast food and the baking and snack food industry capitalized on turning liquid oils into solid fats. Foods high in trans fatty acids are baked goods like doughnuts and pastry, deep fried foods like chicken and french fries. It is best to use these in moderation.

The FDA requires that saturated fat be labeled on food products and limits the extent to which they can label their items as low cholesterol. But without labeling trans fat, a company is able to label their product cholesterol free when in reality, the product may contain a lot of cholesterol by means of trans fats.

Strong arguments are being made by researchers and nutritionists nationally, for the labeling of trans fats on food products. This labeling would naturally help the consumers to make the right choices. It takes change and maintenance for a healthy diet and lifestyle to help lose weight and narrow the risk of disease.

My opinion on this information is that a person should make it a habit of eating all natural foods and that includes butter, lard, anything in it's natural state. I don't think people had problems with cholesterol and heart attacks etc. until they started to process everything and added things to it that were not so natural.
